NEWS AND RESULTS FOR OCTOBER 2009

Saturday 31st October 2009

Mohanad a very respectable 3rd - FRIDAY 30TH OCTOBER!

===================================================

Despite being bumped badly coming down the straight (about 4 times!), Mohanad came a very honourable 3rd. Despite the subsequent stewards enquiry Sheena, Jamie, many of the owners and punters think he is clearly the moral winner even if he didn't finish with his head across the line in first place !

Very frustrating, but least he won't carry a penalty next time out and with a clear run (and less bumping and shoving) the outcome will be more in his favour!

A real shame for all the connections but he is safely home in one piece and Sheena will soon be planning his next race.

===============================

Mohanad´s Kempton win 12 days earlier was the best piece of previous form on offer here and he was well backed under his penalty. He didthings nicely through the race and, while he took time to pick up when under pressure, he was no doubt the chief sufferer coming to the second-last. Whether it cost him the race is open to some debate, but he was coming back on the run-in and is well worth another chance.

GOOD LUCK TO SHEENA, JAMIE AND ALL THE OWNERS WITH HEART OF THE SOUTH RACING!

3.15 Weatherbys Bank Wensleydale Juvenile Novices´ Hurdle (Listed Race) (CLASS 1) (3yo) Winner £10,262RUK

SATURDAY 24TH OCTOBER 2009

2ND IN A LISTED RACE FOR GOLAN WAY

Golan Way in cracking form to come 2nd @ 12/1 in a Listed Race at Chepstow today.

Ridden by Jamie Goldstein unfortunately Golan Way was denied his usual front running tactic being tracked all the way by David Pipe's, Mr. Thriller. When Golan Way was then headed by Alfie Sherrin, Golan Way battled back again finishing 2 lengths in front of him.

A great performance in a Listed Race. Congratulations to the winning connections WRB Racing.

---------------------------
Golan Way, a Grade 2 winning novice, was making his seasonal and handicap debut with something to prove. He won the battle for the early lead and jumped fluently on ground that suits. He deserves credit for rallying once headed and, even though this was a race in which it paid to race handily, has evidently begun life in this sphere on a fair mark.

18th OCTOBER 2009

MOHANAD WINS @ 13/2....JUST AS SHEENA AND JAMIE HAD PREDICTED!!

Heart of The South Racing

WELL DONE TO HEART OF THE SOUTH RACING

Mohanad beat the odds on favourite by 5 lengths and the time was faster than that of the Listed race later in the afternoon. Impressive eh?

OK, so he only managed a 3rd place at Fontwell, BUT Sheena and Jamie was convinced he would win.... and he duly obliged.

John Penny (Owner of Heart of The South Racing) also had total faith in Sheena's prediction and I am sure all the new owners will be absolutely thrilled with this win at Kempton today.

Winning by a comfortable 5 lengths with Jamie Goldstein again in the saddle, it was poetry in motion to watch Mohanad win so impressively.

============================
MOHANAD, third in an ordinary race at Fontwell on his hurdles debut, stepped up on that with what was ultimately a pretty easy win, picking up the favourite after the second-last and value for further in the end as he was eased when in control. He had learned from his debut effort and may step up in grade now. A more galloping track will be in his favour.

Forty Thirty also ran a great race on Friday at Cheltenham to come 3rd at 6/1.

Hey... we've had two days of rain throughout the whole of September. What we do know is that when it does rain it will come with a vengeance.

Anyway...

Itsawindup
==========
He has left us and gone to Evan Williams. We wish him well as he is a lovely, genuine horse.

Silber Mond
===========

Still in and cantering, a bit of schooling every now and then with the babies and he's a happy horse.

Last One Standing
==================

Doing plenty of work, just not fast work yet - he's well though.

Rocky (unnamed by Dancing Spree)
=================================
He's been sent to us by the breeders who also stand Dancing Spree at Manor Farm Stud near Marlbough. A lovely chasing type, he was destined for an eventing career but Roger Wheeler thought he'd like to know if he'd make a racehorse. Dancing Spree won the Breeders Cup sprint and a couple of other Group 1's as well I think. Sadly, he's not a fashionable sire but is capable of breeding winners like Rowe Park and our own Last One Standing and Flamehairtemptress.

He is very reasonably priced stallion too.
He's carrying a bit of weight still and is restricted to plenty of cantering for the time being.

Geoffdaw
========

Pleased with him at Plumpton, if a little disappointed he was going as fast as he could! On the plus side he didn't want to pull up and will probably get a little further than the minimum trip. He has worked well this week and I'll look for another race for him soon.

Son Of Karinga
==============
Has settled in beautifully now and his head is currently in a good place (and I don't mean on the end of his neck!) He's done abit of schooling and jumps well if a little low at present. He'll be fine and at least the lack of rain means we can't be carried into doing more than he's mentally ready for.

Mac Federal
===========
Will start cantering as soon as the ground is right.

Paula
=====
Is well and waiting for rain.

Appointment
===========
Recovering from her banged joint and will start cantering in the next week or so, again she like soft ground so no harm done.

Le Chiffre
==========

Going well and ready for some fast work and I think by now everyone can guess at the next line!

+++++NEW++++++

Screaming Brave
===============
Bought out of Mick Channon's yard a couple of weeks ago after he should have won at Ffoss Las.
He's a lovely horse a lot like Mac Federal in many ways apart from being sound that is. He has hurdler written all over him and has plenty of size to chase in the future as well as being still able to win on the flat, He's won over 1m 2f and stays a 1m 3/4

He's popped over hurdles very accurately this week and he's a lovely first horse for Tracey Walsom and Alex Woodger his new owners and we aim to see what iss about for him in terms of races in about 3-4 weeks for him.

Blazing Bolte
=============
Hopefully her corn problems are now behind her and we can properly get on with her again.

Mohanad
=======
The promise of a money back guarantee from Heart of The South Racing if Mohanad did not finish in the first three at Fontwell caused a lot of interest in this horse. He duly obliged by finishing 3rd. It was a bold statement for Heart of the South Racing and myself to make, but, at the end of the day if we don't have faith in a horse how on earth can we expect new and potential owners to have any confidence in buying shares? I was secretly hoping for Mohanad to finish first BUT I was still happy with the end result considering this was his hurdling debut.

Jamie Goldstein felt he ran a little green in places, but essentially he jumped well enough, he will improve physically, as he did (rather embarrassingly) need the run and mentally he will now know more about his new career and there will be a tremendous bit of fun to come from this horse for everyone involved.

Golan Way
=========

I think we are getting a better picture now as to what to do with him now....we've always felt he has plenty of stamina, but have been concerned with his style of running as to if he will let himself get further, however now he is doing more work it is clear that the horse is much stronger than he was and we'd love to try him over 2 1/2 preferably at Chepstow in the Tote Silver Trophy.

Kashmina
=========
She ran well enough at Plumpton and gave Marc Goldstein his first ride back. She will go to Wincanton on the 8th October.

++++NEW++++

Whiterocks
==========
Another from Mick Channon's yard. He's having a little rest before we start training him. He has a bit of size about him and will stay the trip over hurdles, a little speculative maybe, but remember Forty Thirty was also beaten in sellers before we had him!

He will be offered for sale when I know a little more about him.

Tobago Bay
==========
He ran really well at Uttoxeter under top weight over 2 and a 1/2 miles and again looking like he wants further. We ran him at Market Rasen this weekend over 2m 6f but unfortunately the weights went up so he ended up having to carry 11st 8lbs but he ran his heart out yet again to finish a hugely honourable 4th again looking like he needs further still.

Although he's still very young at 4 years old to run over 3 miles we think whatever he does he will only improve with age and trip. He will run in a Pertemps qualifier at Cheltenham on the 16th October and hopefully he will get in under a sensible weight.

Tarawa Atoll
============
It was such a shame she fell as I feel she would have definately been 4th and was staying on like she could have been 3rd at Plumpton. The poor girl didn't deserve to fall as she'd actually jumped the hurdle but just didn't put her landing gear out in time. After a heart stopping moment or two she did get then up and is now back in full work with no ill effects.

Forty Thirty
============
A stunning win at Stratford, and well done to Stephen Monks and Alan Tappin who bought half of him before he ran. He ran at Market Rasen this weekend, unfortunately it was not his day. Market Rasen is a track that suits front runners well and Forty Thirty is more of a hold up horse and prefers also to go left handed. He has returned with no ill effects what so ever and we are really looking forward to taking on Barizan again at Cheltenham on the 16th. It might or might not be notable that Simarian (a hold up horse) was 4th at Market Rasen last year before he won at Cheltenham a track that suited him better. Having said all that Forty Thirty may not like Cheltenham's up and downs but we shall see.

Split the Wind
==============
After some deliberation her owners have regrettably decided to sell her due to a change of circumstances......not my choice but there we go.

Bay Hawk
========
His last scan wasn't as good as we would have liked it to be, so he has been retired from racing. He remains sound and hasn't broken down but it was felt by all concerned that it was best he stays that way.
