MARTIN LEONARD RIDES DUBAI GLORY AT EPSOM FOR THE AFFORDABLE PARTNERSHIP

Christina leading up Dubai Glory

Syndicate organiser, Stan Clegg and Martin Leonard in the pre parade ring

Martin Leonard and The Affordable Partnership

Another great ride by Martin Leonard on Dubai Glory and thanks again to the syndicate members for giving Martin the opportunity to ride one of the greatest racetracks in the country.

It is all great experience for Martin and only still only his 4th ride in public.

SUNDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 2011

Alfraamsey ridden by Marc Goldstein and led up by Hayley

SHEENA'S ON FIRE WITH AN AMAZING DOUBLE AT PLUMPTON! ALFRAAMSEY AND MR HARMOOSH BOTH WIN @ 4/1 and 5/1 RESPECTIVELY!

Two runners and two wins today at Plumpton with both Mr. Harmoosh and Alfraamsey both getting their heads in front. Especially well done to Marc Goldstein who does a lot of the ground work and schooling on these horses and it is so rewarding to see all his efforts being repaid by winning on Alfraamsey and well done to Leighton Aspell who rode Mr Harmoosh.

Congratulations to all the connections. I can imagine there would have been some champagne flowing in Plumpton this afternoon.

===========================

A competitive if ordinary looking 0-125 handicap hurdle run at a reasonable pace. MR HARMOOSH had shaped as though a switch to handicapping would pay dividends, but he threw away any chance he might of held with a costly blunder last time. He travelled strongly for much of the way here and, after taking over at the second-last, was soon well in command. He won with something in hand and should remain competitive, if realistically treated, as he is lightly raced over hurdles and open to further improvement.

QUOTES: Sheena West, trainer of Mr Harmoosh: "This horse is incredibly talented but has been incredibly frustrating. He´s been difficult to settle and to get to jump properly and we were just waiting for it to come right. If he didn´t run well today we were going back on the Flat. But now the penny has dropped I think he can progress."

The ground was described as good to firm, good in places. A decent pace for this ordinary juvenile hurdle with ALFRAAMSEY pulling well clear on the home bend to win with any amount in hand. A winner over 6f on the Flat, he had some stamina questions to answer here, but clearly sees out the trip well enough and has taken well to hurdling. He has a good attitude but life will become tougher under a penalty when the better horses in this division begin to emerge.

Kissing Clara has won a seller but had plenty to find with Alfraamsey on their latest meeting and was duly put in her place again.

QUOTES;Sheena West, trainer of Alfraamsey: "The track suited him down to the ground and I´ve only got as far as today for plans. I think he´d be worth a shot over further on the Flat as he´s only been sprinting so far. He definitely stays well."

For anyone interested in putting a horse with Sheena or to enquire about horses currently for sale, please call Sheena on 07748 181804 for information and further details. Be part of this winning team both on the flat or over the jumps!

SATURDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2011 - MOHANAD AND DUBAI GLORY AT NEWMARKET

Well done Hayley. Yet another best turned out price for Hayley for Mohanad and Dubai Glory back in the winners enclosure again. This time with a very creditable 4th in a 0-95 handicap!

BALLINA BLUE an 100/1 shot AND MARTIN LEONARD at Kempton 15/9/2011

==========================================================

Martin being led up by Megan

Ballina Blue has only been with Sheena for a few weeks as he has the physical stamp and the stamina of a NH horse. He is taking a while to get his co ordination correct over the hurdles so a decision was made to give him a run around Kempton on the all weather just to see if the constant running up and down of the South downs has turned a light on in his head somewhere. It was decided Martin Leonard would take the ride for two reasons. Firstly, he rides Ballina Blue at home and secondly he is a good rider looking for riding opportunities to enable him to get the experience to further his career as a jockey.

It was a good decision as both Ballina Blue and Martin worked hard and finished a respectable 6th beaten less than 4 lengths and they certainly did not look at any time like an 100/1 shot that was available from many bookies on the evening.

I hope that after that effort other owners who may need a claiming jockey may consider using Martin Leonard who, with a few more rides under his belt may well be a young jockey to follow in the future.

MOHANAD AT EPSOM 2ND AT 14/1

Yet another brilliant performance by stable stay "Mo". In a novelty race at Epsom, yet again Mohanad proves what a genuine and versatile horse he is. Ridden by National Hunt jockey Leighton Aspell, Mo did himself and the owners proud by finishing 2nd at 14/1.

A great result with another excellent performance.

============================

Mohanad, 2lb higher than when runner-up at Lingfield a month earlier, ran another cracker. Always in the leading quintet, he stayed on nicely and seems sure to remain competitive in the immediate future.

SUNDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER 2011

Megan leading up Hi Note

A great start to September with Hi Note who ran a decent race at Kempton on Wednesday night winning in great style under a very confident ride by Marc Goldstein. Due to a heavy downpour for a few hours leading up to the first race the ground changed and Hi Note clearly didn't find this a problem. Hi Note opened at 16/1 but was backed into 10/1 by the off.

Hi Note was the leading pack from the start of the race and looked every inch the winner from a long way out with the rest of the field strung out.

A great team effort yet again for the yard and another first for Sheena's daughter Megan, who led in her first winner today!

Hi Note on the run in and if you look closely, the other runners can be made out in the background.

Stan and Dave stepped in to collect the winning trophy in the absence of an owner for this gutsy mare. After todays performance she will not be "for sale" for long!

===========================

Heavy rain led to the ground being changed to good before racing, but it was clearly softer than that having viewed this opening juvenile hurdle and was changed again to good to soft after the race - Jamie Moore describing it as "good to soft or soft" and "hard work for them".

The runners finished tired in this opening contest and only two were in it on the final circuit. HI NOTE, third when favourite for a selling hurdle at Stratford on last month´s debut, has since run well on the Flat and it was her previous experience that made the difference, jumping better than the runner-up, albeit she wasn´t perfect herself, and showing a good attitude to tough it out from the front. More will be needed under a penalty, but she´s clearly versatile ground-wise.

LATEST UPDATE - 5TH SEPTEMBER 2011

Well, it's September again which means it will being snowing soon! :0)

My daughter Megan is off to college to do her A levels after some excellent exam results. After spending the last couple of months working with me in the yard she has now claimed ownership of nearly all the horses.

Martin Leonard my apprentice jockey had his first ride for the yard last week and will strip fitter next time out.

I've actually had a holiday this year and I must say thank you to my wonderful owner Mike Moriarty for a wonderful time spent in Croatia recently with his family, Megan and one of her friends. Also Prince Harry (who is looking just like his father) gratefully accepted our offer of sharing our Easyjet flight on the way home. If anyone reads The Daily Mail he had the same clothes on on the flight as he did over his weekend there. Well, good observation is part of my job. ;0)

Now onto the horses:

SCREAMING BRAVE
===============

Unfortunately he picked up a minor but very inconvenient injury at Stratford so he will start his holiday early and come back for next season a very well handicapped horse if all goes to plan.

BLAZING BOLTE
=============
Walking and trotting away over the hills she'll start cantering in a couple of weeks. She is a really good prospect for novice hurdles this season.

DENTON RYAL
===========

She's now won for the 3rd time this season another seller but again not bid enough money to let this now 5 times winning 4 year old to go. She's rated 115 now and the penalties are adding up. She might try novice chasing next but they can be a bit tricky this time of year. Although she has schooled very well I don't really want to run her in a handicap straight off where there is bound to be something improving rated in the 90's so...........I'll think about it!

LEG IRON
========

Cantering away and a lovely horse. A proper chaser. He wants a bit more give in the ground.

GOLAN WAY
=========

He's feeling like a chaser now rather than pretending to be one. He's been remarkably relaxed this time round and I'll get some more firm plans for him mapped out.

MOHANAD
=======

He ought to have won at Lingfield but he didn't. For any disgruntled people I have to point out that that is why it's called gambling after all. Our jockey Harry Bentley was comprehensively outwitted by Ian Mongan and he was never going to get past wherever he went. An excellent ride, Ian. I then ran him at Newton Abbot where it down poured with rain before racing and Mo doesn't like it too soft and it didn't suit him. Never say never but I can't help but wonder if he is turning into a staying flat horse. Just in case he is I've entered him in the Cesarewitch and he'll run in the trial at Newmarket in a couple of weeks time.

DUBAI GLORY
===========

As I touched on last month fast ground is the key to her and then she duly bolted in back at Sailsbury on fast ground. If we can find similar conditions she will win again. She has been such a wonderful success story. She started the season winning off of a mark of 58 and now she's rated 80.

We are all very proud of her and love her to teeny bits!

BE ALL MAN
==========
He is a lovely boy and just wants a bit of give in the ground and he'd be ready to run soon probably in a bumper before going hurdling.

WHIPPERWAY
==========

Totally revitalized and in really good order. She should come to hand pretty quickly and benefit from a very good mark.

"BOBBY" Dr Massini 3 year old
===========================

Still cantering about. She wants some proper cut in the ground...........and a bit less weight on her!

* NEW* CHILWORTH LASS
=====================

A 3 year old bay filly by Imperial Dancer ex Inching by Inchinor

She is a winning filly who is sound and recommended as being well worth trying. Another from my favourite "pre training yard" aka Mick Channon. All went wrong for her on the flat this year and she's settled in well her so far. Whipperway gave her a lead over the tyres on Saturday and she seemed to enjoy it. Anything could happen with her.

MOONWOLF
========

The frustrating "Wolfie" has now been sold to go pointing.

SHIRROCCO colt
==============
He's going well and a real bonny horse hope to have him out back end.

BRILLIANT BARCA * SHARES FOR SALE *
=====================================

There are still couple of shares for sale at extremely competitive prices and unless you wise up soon and buy a share you'll miss your chance in this truly lovely horse. I shall be giving a few thumpings (only joking)

I've turned down an offer for him to go to India. I know he'd like a trip but c'mon now!
Again he's being doing plenty of cantering and just wants a bit of give in the ground before he'll run. He is schooling well and plenty of fun to come in the coming months.

YE HAFED
========

Schooling well and like some of the others wants a bit of rain in the ground. He'll be good.

GEORDIE BOY * SHARES FOR SALE *
===============================

A 2 year old. He's cantering away quite happily. He is still unfurnished and uncoordinated. He will be an exceptionally handsome horse in a few months. Aiming to have him out December or January.

BALLINA BLUE
============

He'd be good at Poker as he gives nothing away but bad as he wouldn't understand the hand he holds. It is taking him an age to get his jumping together but is shaping up alright now after plenty of loose schooling but in the meantime his work has come on tremendously. He'll never be a speed demon, but is showing enough to warrant trying to get a handicap mark on the flat. The current plan is to go to Kempton with him on the 15th of September followed by a Fontwell juvenile hurdle race on the 30th.

MAC FEDERAL
============
Just started cantering and again seem much calmer this time round.

"TOBY" The tobougg yearling
==========================
Has actually won a trophy for best yearling! I haven't been to this particular show for years, but I do remember winning the junior jumping there once so I went and found the trophy and there it was in ....... 1976. OMG but even funnier was Candy Moore stood by the side of me!

MR HARMOOSH
===========

Incredibly talented and frustrating at the same time. Plumpton on the 18th awaits him.

HI NOTE *FOR SALE*
===================

She seemed like the sort of horse who would need a run for experience and it is not a reflection of my opinion of her that she ran in a seller first time out. I didn't really think she could win it although, on the day, it has to be said I couldn't think what else could. She was shellshocked during and after the race as everything happened far too quickly for her. On the postive side she took it all on board, slept on it and then duly manned up! It was nice to be able to give my apprentice, Martin Leonard a spin on her last week at Kempton where she finished a respectable 3rd in an apprentice race and that put her bang on for Fontwell over a longer trip yesterday. As it turned out she enjoys the slower ground and she was giggling like a fat spider almost immediately the tapes went up.

A really nice dual purpose horse for the winter. A shame there was a second otherwise she'd have won by a distance!

ALFRAAMSEY
==========

Another good run from him at Newton Abbott. In front everywhere bar on the line. I really felt sorry for him. He'll now go to Plumpton on the 18th.
