NEWS AND UPDATES FOR AUGUST 2009

28th August 2009

THE LOCAL PRESS SUPPORTING SHEENA!

Thank you Jason Hall from The Sussex Express!

Local trainer Sheena West continued her excellent record with young hurdlers last Saturday when Forty Thirty scored an impressive win at Bangor and in so doing became yet another flat race cast off to be transformed by Sheena and her hardworking team.
That list includes the likes of Kalmini, Mac Federal, Tobago Bay and the graded class winner Golan Way.
I asked Sheena where she thought Forty Thirty stood in comparison to this group.
“He doesn’t really have that much in common with the others in terms of his character He is still a bit too keen for his own good, but Jamie (Goldstein, his rider) has been doing a lot of work trying to get him to settle and Saturday was a reward for that.”
Indeed at Stratford on the horses hurdling debut Forty Thirty was extremely keen and took a soft fall because of that over exuberance.
However, on Saturday as Sheena has pointed out Jamie must be commended for appearing to get him a touch more settled and ultimately able to show something like his true ability.
The obvious next question for Sheena was how far did she feel Forty Thirty could go?
“It’s difficult to say but he certainly has an engine that is comparable to the best of the other novices I have had and he can certainly defy a penalty. He is for sale and will give anybody who fancies him some good days at the races.”
If your columnist did not have such a large mortgage he would like to buy a chunk of this horse and I do not think Forty Thirty will be on the market for long.
Sheena has shown a very good strike rate over the years with her small but growing team and with Jamie Goldstein, whose family have a long association with the sport in this area, working alongside her the prospects for the future are bright.
To find out more about ownership or just about the team in general try out her website at www.sheenawestracing.com .

FORTY THIRTY WINS AT 16/1 ON AUGUST 15TH 2009

Jamie Goldstein on Forty Thirty winning at Bangor Saturday 15th August 2009

Congratulations to the winning connections of Forty Thirty after he wins comfortably on Saturday at Bangor. Jamie Goldstein has been schooling Forty Thirty at home and has been impressed at the way he had handled his hurdling albeit falling on his debut. Forty Thirty confirmed Jamie's confidence in him an when winning by a comfortable 6 lengths and both he and Sheena think he is capable of winning again.

There are currently 2 x 25% at £5000 plus vat per share. Shares available on a first come first served basis in this horse. Please call Sheena for further details.

Courtesy of The Racing Post:
One or two nice juveniles have taken this down the years, Fair Along was by far the most noteworthy, so the winner is one to keep an eye on.

FORTY THIRTY, who fell at the fourth in the Stratford race won by Fongoli, did not run too badly at Brighton recently and took this with authority after travelling strongly. Sheena West has a history of doing well with other trainer´s cast-offs, so he could be the sort to rack up a sequence.

Two other horses are also available for purchase, Tarawa Atoll amd Mohanad both to remain in the yard.

Details can be found on the HORSES FOR SALE page of this website.

NEWS AND UPDATES OF HORSES IN THE YARD

Silber Mond
============

Nothing new to report, just lots of cantering

Last One Standing
=================

Just about ready for some fast work now, but would prefer a bit of rain before he starts this. It's lovely up on The Downs but we do need an awful lot of rain to have a proper going sustained change here and we seem to have missed all the significant rain around the country.

Bay Hawk
========

He's looking good, but again needs a bit of proper ease in the ground before going faster.

**NEW**

Geoffdaw
========

He has won 4 races including a handicap of 74, this 4 year old son of Vittori out of a Barathea mare is schooling well and hopefully 8 flights of hurdles will be the making of him.

Ladino
======

Will soon start fast work and be ready to run end of September.

Itsawindup
==========

Has been ticking over and will be ready to start fast work soon again

'Paula'
=======

Her name Saharah sun was rejected, so thinking caps on for another name. She's now back cantering after a break to run in the autumn.

Appointment
============

She's looking good and doing well, again just cantering.

Le Chiffre
===========

He's feeling well and cantering.

Split the Wind
==============

Cantering will hopefully run end of the month.

Blazing Bolte
=============

Very pleased with her debut run at Uttoxeter when a staying on 9/16 was beaten 16 lengths. Unfortunately it rained there and we a sure she will be seen to a better light on good ground at Stratford on September 5th.

Mohanad
=======

Another new horse. By Invincible Spirit out of a Alhaarth mare. I bought him at the horses in Training sales from Mick Channon. He has been gelded now and fully recovered. A really attractive easy going horse, he's schooling well, has good enough Flat form to hurdle and will make up in to a quality dual purpose horse, to add to our tally of winners from the same source.

Golan Way
=========

He's doing the 3 canters as steady as he can, the ground is firm enough for him after his knock at Cheltenham but he's doing fine.

Kashmina
=========

At last her trach washes are acceptable, she's now back in fast work. Will probably run on the flat again before going hurdling, purely as we really want to make sure everything is OK with her in a flat race rather than the hurly burly of hurdling.

Tobago Bay
==========

He enjoys the odd flat run as was 3rd at Folkestone last time. Other jockeys are now wise as to how he runs now and won't let him get away anymore, but he's slipped another couple of pounds now and his day will come yet on the flat.

Tarawa Atoll
============

She's great doing everything right and will be more than ready when we have a drop of rain. Unbelievably is still for sale!! (check out the "horses for sale" page for further details)

Forty Thirty
=============

Bought with Tarawa Atoll from Mick Channon and again unbelievably still for sale!! After his early departure at Stratford, he had a spin on the flat at Brighton over 7 and finished 3rd then we took him to Bangor last Saturday when he won (never extended) by 6 lengths, all known evidence suggesting that a penalty or 2 wont get in his way in his next runs.
