Kashmina
SOME SAD NEWS....
We sadly lost our very game and consistant mare Kashmina yesterday at Stratford.
Kashmina was a very special mare and adored by her owners at Heart of the South Racing and of course all of us here at the yard. Many of the owners became very attached to Kashmina and many rarely missed any of her races.
We all know about the ups and downs of horseracing but it is always desperately sad when you lose a horse.
My condolences to all the connections at Heart of The South Racing and thank you to everyone who has sent me texts and e-mails to the office.

FORTY THIRTY IS FOR SALE!

TARGET RACE A £30K RACE AT MARKET RASEN IN JULY!
Phone Sheena for further details.

Blazing June has inevitably arrived and the new jumps season is well underway, Horses are running well albeit without winning, too well not to be winning which is a bit frustrating to say the least but on the plus side the jumpers have won the yard and owners over 10k in May which takes some doing with the current levels of prize money and probably best not to dwell on. How well we could have been doing if the 2nds had been winners!
That's racing and it is far better hitting the cross bar than the alternative.
A few of the horses are on their holidays, but there are enough in to keep us busy and it's getting to that time of the year when it would be nice to get a few novice hurdlers in the yard for the coming season.
FORTY THIRTY
============
Has kicked of in tremendous style this season with a 3rd at Aintree on his seasonal/handicap debut of 125 behind a runaway winner, then following up with a very encouraging 2nd at Statford last weekend, getting upped to 129. He is a progressive unexposed horse who still hasn't got the genuine fast ground he prefers. It will happen and he will head to either Statford on the 13th or Newton Abbott on the 15th.
Market Rasen has some very valuable handicaps in the summer and he will be aimed at them. I'd be happy to run him again on the flat when there is an opportunity and see how he might have progressed in that sphere. In 8 starts for the yard he has only finished out the frame on one occasion when he fell and won over 17K in prize money. He is a sound genuine horse and is now for sale for £25k plus VAT to (hopefully) stay in the yard. I feel this represents huge value in any economic climate.
MOHANAD
=======
He's in very good order and after his excellent 4th at Sandown I would be lying if I were to say we were a little disappointed with his run at Newton Abbot. However, although it seemed reasonable to try front running tactics it would seem that is not the best way to run him, again he is only a 4 year old and in time it may prove to be the right thing to do, also he has to race at a quite high level given his 123 rating, but he's never finished out of the frame for his owners on the flat or hurdles so nothing to be too despondent about. He will go to Worcester this weekend where they have put on a Intermediate hurdle for 2nd season novices, with just 1 penalty and an age allowance as long as the rain stays away we have to give it a shot.
MR MUDDLE
=========
Got in a muddle at Windsor, behaving immaculately he conviently chose to forget all his training and pretend he'd never seen grass or go round a bend. Believe me he lied as he knows damn well what to do and if not a great horse we know he can do far better than he showed. It's all a learning curve for young horses, but after his 'nice' introduction we will expect him to show a bit more on his next run at Sandown on 12th June.
GOODWOOD STARLIGHT
==================
He ran well at Windsor finishing 3rd, again the lack of pace in the race wasn't in his favour and he really dosn't help himself very much by always doing overtime and hanging at a crucial time. He ran at Newmarket where it all seemed to be going so well in theory..a couple of horses to put a bit of pace in the race. Although the prelims at Newmarket do possibly get to him a bit. For those that don't know Newmarket that well the stables are (seem) million miles away from the course and the horse has to be mucked around with boxing up and down to the track. It's a long way to the start their too and he behaved himself by being settled on the way down, missed the break as we wanted to get him behind, then pulled like the proverbial and had nothing left at the end of the race. So that as they say was that. He's now 5 years old had 30 odd starts and has always been the same so he's not going to change now. I think we just have to accept him the way he is. It would be nice just to let him bowl on but he's more inclined to bolt in front not settle so that's no answer. But thinking back he ran well at Folkstone when fresh and Windsor fresh so he will be freshened up before his next run at Carlise in the Cumberland Plate a very valuable 0-80 handicap always with a full field and always run at a pace. We have a plan!!
FLYINFLYOUT
===========
Having been convinced that fly would stay after he excellent return at Goodwood it became apparent that she didn't at Salisbury. I've found a 1m 2f for her at Lingfield this Saturday and she should run well there. She's going well at home jumps well and will go jumping later on.
APPOINTMENT
===========
She is fine and well, but unfortunatly balloted out a couple of times. I hope to run her on the 10th of June at Fontwell.
LAST ONE STANDING
=================
Has been doing plenrty of scholing over fences and is really better suited to fences than hurdles. He probably needs a lit more racing experience first and will find a novice hurdle for him later this month.
SCREAMING BRAVE
===============
He hasn't been overly impressing in his homework, but as there is nothing wrong with him it didn't seem a good enough reason not to run him so off we went to Ffos Las. He is a very strong traveller and a good jumper who like fast ground. Unfortunately, the sun got in the way leaving only 3 hurdles to jump, even worse for us they bypassed between the hurdle and chase tracks where all the racecoure vehicles go and after the rain and watering this was the softest bit of ground on the course. I can't say track was the problem as the wouldn't normally race on this bit of ground. Jamie was desperately trying to get as much as possible on the chase track for the better ground. For those that care the horse didn't hang or shirk anything we were basically just looking for the ground! So another 2nd, his 3rd in 5 starts, but he will win again before too long and I think I worry too much about homework sometimes.
BLAZING BOLTE
=============
She been going so well, then sods law dictates that on the day she is due to run she's holding her leg in the air explaning in the best horse language possible that she had a sore foot and she was right so couldn't run. The problem should be quickly resolved and we'll see her out soon.
KASHMINA
========
She ran ok enough at Brighton the first time and then dissapointingly didn't get on too well there the next time. I suppose in the back of my mind that's why she hasn't run there before. She needs a flatter track and Folkestone looks a good race for her next week and the race she won at Windsor last year is looking quite attractive.
TOBAGO BAY
==========
He's also in good order, so want to get him chasing, but after a schooling session this week his inclination to land a bit steep when he gets in tight combined with the stiffness of the fences at Worcester this year combined with the fact a hurdle is on the card which he would run well in, means that his chasing debut will be delayed a little bit more. He's now back up to 130 which, as he's a good horse, Ii guess he deserves and as a nice horse I guess nice things might happen for him too.
